General Liability

How Much General Liability Coverage Does Your Business Actually Need?

5 min read

Many business owners set their general liability limit to whatever a contract or landlord requires, then never revisit it. That number is a floor, not a recommendation tailored to your operation.

Start with your actual exposure: the size of the jobs you take on, the value of the property you work around, and the limits your larger clients or GCs are likely to require as your business grows.

A $1M/$2M policy is common for smaller operations, but an umbrella policy is often the more cost-efficient way to add meaningful limits once your revenue or contract size increases.

Review your limits annually, and any time you take on a materially larger contract than usual.
